Blur.me (branded BlurMe on their site) is one of the more serious consumer face-anonymization products: AI detection, selective unblur so you can keep the speaker visible, custom zones, blur or pixelation, batch photos, and a video product. Their homepage copy is explicit about uploading a file so the detector can run. They publish scale claims (countries, files per day). We are not repeating those numbers as independently audited statistics; treat them as marketing. The product shape is what this comparison uses.
HideShot is not an AI video platform. Comparing the two as if they were the same category would be dishonest. The overlapping search intent is “I need to blur faces / people in a photo and I saw Blur.me.” For stills, you have a real choice: automatic cloud (or hybrid) detection versus manual local cover.
BlurMe’s genuine advantages
Video. Frame-accurate face blur is a hard problem. HideShot has no answer. If your deliverable is a talking-head interview with bystanders, BlurMe Video or a professional NLE plugin is the category you want.

Black Box. BlurMe emphasizes blur and pixelation for identity. HideShot adds opaque cover, which is the right control for text, badges, and codes sitting next to a face.

- Use Oval + Blur or Pixelate for faces if you want a typical anonymized look. Use Black Box if the region includes a name tag or a document.
- Scan for second faces in mirrors, posters, and crowd backgrounds. Detectors miss those too — manual review is not optional in either product.
