Image to Line Drawing — Clean Outlines Without Uploading

Converting a photo into a line drawing is useful when you need a tracing guide, a coloring page, a stencil silhouette, an icon-painting outline, or a high-contrast engraving template. HideShot runs a Canvas-based edge pipeline on your image pixels: tone adjustments, optional denoising, hybrid edge detection, thresholding, cleanup, and line styling.

Because processing stays in the browser, you can work with personal photos, religious artwork references, or client files without sending them to a server. Choose a preset for a strong starting point, then nudge sensitivity and cleanup until the outline matches what you need to print or paint.

For faces, try Simple Portrait or Detailed Portrait. For thick fill-ready shapes, use Bold Stencil or Logo Cleanup. For printable pages kids can color, start with Coloring Page and increase line thickness slightly.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Your image is processed privately in your browser and is never uploaded or stored on HideShot’s servers.

What file types are supported?

JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP. If a file is corrupt or not a supported image type, you’ll see a clear error instead of a broken preview.

Can I use this for religious icon painting?

Yes. The Religious Icon preset favors strong outer contours and reduced interior noise so you can use the result as a painting or tracing guide. Always respect copyright and church guidelines for any reference images you use.

Can I make a transparent line drawing?

Yes. Choose black or white lines on transparent, export as PNG or WebP, and enable the transparent-background option. Transparent export is not available for JPG.

Why does my image contain too many lines?

Busy photos create busy edges. Raise the low/high thresholds, lower detail and background detail, increase blur or noise reduction, and try Clean Tracing or Bold Stencil. Removing small dots and short lines also helps.

Which preset is best for faces?

Start with Simple Portrait for a readable outline, or Detailed Portrait when you want more facial features. Then lower background detail if the room behind the subject is too noisy.

Does the tool work on phones?

Yes. The layout is mobile-friendly. On phones you can upload from your camera roll; clipboard paste support depends on the mobile browser.

Can I print the finished drawing?

Yes. Use the Print button for a quick print dialog, or download a PNG/JPG and print from your device. Coloring Page and Clean Tracing are good print-oriented starting points.
